The Absence Theorem

This post will be short and sweet.

It is time for me to take the sabbatical that I have been procrastinating about for the past couple of years.

As you are probably aware by now, I have an ongoing struggle with social media and my use of it. Many times in the past I have said that I will be taking a break, just to try and find some space for other things that are important to me.

As I approach my 49th birthday this weekend, I have decided to take more time to write in my notebooks, using pen & pencil. I will, of course, continue to use email when necessary, but for the rest of my correspondence, I will be using analogue ways to stay in touch with people.

As always, I have a few commitments that require me to dip in and out of social media channels, but they will be the only exception to the rule. I will no longer rely on digital calendars for scheduling events. Instead, I will buy myself a small leather bound day to page diary and use that.

I have already removed all of the social media apps from my smartphone and will only use it for making calls and sending or receiving text messages.

Now, I am unsure how long this absence from the digital world will last. I’m not going to put a date on when I will make a full return. Instead, I will make a point of writing a small update, here, on this blog of mine. I might also write other posts here, as and when the mood takes me.

So, Happy Fucking Birthday to me. I don’t know what the future holds for me, and to be honest with you, I’m trying not to look too far down the road. There is a lot for me to be focussing on right now and wasting endless hours on social media and the internet, in general, has to stop.

Have a great Christmas; I will be writing something to be posted either on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.

Until then, adieu.

P.S. If you fancy buying me a birthday or Christmas gift, my Amazon Wishlist is at the bottom of this page 😉
