For the first time in many months, I find myself alone at home; this is rare.
So, what did I do with this slice of freedom? I cleaned the house, listened to some music and watched a few YouTube videos. Is that constructive? I don’t know, but anyway, it has all lead me to sit down and spew forth some words of encouragement and reflection.
2021 is going to be very different. Rhona has decided that she cannot continue to work at a job with little or no prospects, and so she will begin a new career in the telecommunications industry. Making a career change as significant as this whilst in her late forties has meant that she had to take a considerable amount of time to think about all aspects fo her life. I, too, have had to think about what it will mean to us as a family.
The first few weeks of her new role will involve her being away learning fibre optic engineering basics. It will be an opportunity for Karta and me to bond in a way we cannot do when my wife is home. I know that he will miss her being here, but offset by a loosening of his mother’s restrictions placed on him. Maybe now is the time to speak to Karta about life, the universe and everything? Soon enough, we will be able to venture out into the post-lockdown world; Karta will meet up with his friends and start doing his favourite things once again.
At some point, I will have opportunities to catch up with some of my dearest friends and restore those relationships to where they used to be. In between all of this, I will find a way to make some money working at home. I will help Karta develop a plan about what he will be doing with the rest of his life, so he has some direction.
The icing on the cake has to be my spiritual and physical well being. For years I have procrastinated over my health and the changes that I need to make. This new chapter in our lives seems like the perfect time to press the button and make a move towards a longer, healthier life than I am currently living.
