It has been quite a while since I have had the time to sit down and write. I have moved home and started a new job. I work away from home on a four on four off rotation, doing 12-hour night shifts. I stay with a friend who works with me, so we eat, sleep, work, repeat. But then I drive home to my family and our beautiful new home, deep in the Kent countryside, southeast of Canterbury. That feeling of love and joy at getting home to my wife and son is beautiful. Once home, there’s no expectation for me to have to do much other than rest & relax.
R&R is vital. The work that we do is physical and time-consuming. We have two 20-minute breaks and one 30-minute break for lunch across the 12-hour shift. We have a small cup of herbal tea and a half-hour decompression following the working day before heading to bed. Earplugs and eyemasks keep out the daylight while we grab several hours of precious sleep, which comes easily due to physical exhaustion.
Having a regular income again is excellent. I am doing everything I can to avoid doing overtime at work, so careful financial planning should help prevent that.
I will continue with my freelance work, but the projects that I take on will be carefully chosen to avoid having an impact on my downtime.
So, that’s it for now. I have a dental appointment today; I will be coming home minus a tooth. Neglecting this blog eats away at me, but I will have time to write again now that things are a little more settled.
Until next time, adieu!
