Kicking my minimalism journey into overdrive in 2017 is going to be a challenge!

As I’ve mentioned in my last post, I’ve had a bit of a bumpy start to 2017. Already into February and I’m at least two or three grand behind where I would like to be with my finances.

In an attempt to mitigate some of these losses and to continue my minimalism journey, I’ve decided that I’m going to find one thousand of our possessions and sell them. I’m fairly sure that I can find that many things within our home. During our move last year, we managed to de-clutter an enormous amount of surplus stuff. We had to compress the contents of a large, detached bungalow into a top floor two bedroom flat. It was challenging. We took an objective approach when doing this, asking ourselves plenty of searching questions about why we still owned these surplus items.

I would say that we got rid of around 30% of our belongings during the move. For the rest, we had to find “temporary” homes for those here in the flat. The majority of that “stuff” we stored in our loft space, and a little in my mother-in-law’s garden shed. We had promised ourselves that we would make time to sort through all of this within weeks of settling into our new home, that didn’t happen. Life got in the way, and before we knew it, it was mid-winter and Christmas had been and gone. WTF!

So, over the next few weeks, I’ll be gathering together these surplus things and selling them via eBay and Gumtree. I’ll assign each item a number and post the details of each sale here. If, at any point, you see something that looks like it might be useful to you or someone you know, then please drop me a line.

The ultimate aim here is to be clutter free and maybe a little more mobile. What I mean by that is, that we won’t be weighed down by excessive belongings, and, when we do decide to move home again, we won’t have to haul a tonne of crap that we don’t use anymore with us!

So wish me luck as I try to get rid of some more “stuff that don’t need” and feel free to contact me if you see something you like the look of that’s up for sale.

Until next time, adieu!
