Getting Back on Track

My attempts to return to work following my arthritis flare-up seem to have hit a roadblock. Annoyingly, and despite being given the all-clear to go back to work on light duties, the company I work for doesn’t have a suitable job for me to do. This is frustrating and is hitting me financially. I am being told to stay home on SSP (statutory sick pay), which only pays me around Β£100 per week, nowhere near enough to live on. I have done everything by the book. I have dutifully reported what my medical team and doctor have told me about my condition and subsequent recovery. But here I sit, worrying about how we will find the money to survive. I should have “sucked it up” and told my employers that I was okay to return to my job as a truck driverβ€”a lesson learned.

I will now be redeployed within the company, working as a mobile seed plant operator for a subsidiary called Anglia Grain Services. I like the sound of it, working on farms preparing grain to be used as seed for crops. The wheels are turning slowly, but I remain hopeful I will return to work by the beginning of March. I will update this blog as and when things change.
