I received a text message from my doctor offering me the flu jab. All I had to do was walk in and get the shot. From getting the SMS to having the injection was under 10 minutes! It helps that I live next door to the surgery.
expedition 1 update
Just a quick update about my proposed trip to Nordkapp in Norway next summer. The summer solstice in 2021 is on Sunday 20th of June. With that in mind, I will be planning to arrive in the area by the 19th with a view to staying nearby for up to three days. Also, I am planning on crossing the English Channel via Eurotunnel, so I’ll be looking to make that booking in Janauary.
So far, my plan is to drive into Europe and up to Amsterdam for the first evening. Day two is then a drive over to Wolfsburg in Germany for a visit to Autostadt. The next stop will be Copenhagen for a couple of days, followed by a drive to Stockholm in Sweden. We then drive north through Sweden for a few days, before we pop out the top and into Norway.
I’m still working out the return leg of the journey, but we will stay in Norway for most of the trip back down. Other things that I am working on are items for the roof-box, such as a second spare wheel and fuel canisters. We will be staying in a mix of B&Bs, motels and hostels. All of our accommodation will be low rent, although I will make sure that we stay in decent hotels when visiting larger towns and cities – for security and a good night’s sleep.
That’s all for now. Stay safe.
LOCKDOWN? WHAT LOCKDOWN?!
I cannot understand how and why there are so many people still out and about, apparently going about their business as usual. I have had to work for a few days and that took me out into the world. Driving has been a problem, huge amounts of traffic etc, I even got stuck in a jam for ten minutes. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!?
I have to do one more day of driving tomorrow (Monday), after that I will be staying put at home and only venturing out for food shopping, walking for exercise and to collect Karta’s new Xbox. Things will get worse if we don’t follow the advice being given by the government.
One of my pet hates, people in big SUVs that sit in traffic with their foot on the brake pedal! I mean, what the actual fuck?! The light is blinding. Just put the fucking thing into neutral and pop your handbrake on. I bet if I sat behind them with my full-beam on they would soon be jumping up and down, and losing their shit about being dazzled?! Rant over.
Today is our 16th wedding anniversary. We were married and then had a huge fancy dress party to celebrate. Samhain, Calangaef or Halloween – whatever your preference – is a very special time of year for us; we’re still going strong, so here’s to the next sixteen!
/I need to simplify my digital files_
I have too many digital files and folders scattered across several devices and the internet cloud. Following the recent passing of my father, I have started to take a look at some of the difficulties my family will have trying to locate all of my digital assets once I am gone.
So the other day, I thought that it was time for me to move over to a different way of fasting, specifically the 18:6 TRF regime. Well, that was a mistake for me. I’m not sure what went wrong, but I ended up eating much later than I had been on the circadian rhythm plan that I was following. It might have had something to do with the pulled pork that I made on Saturday night?
From today, I have decided to go back to CR-TRF.
/switching to 18:6 TRF_
I’m moving across to a slightly more restrictive fast. The 18:6 TRF (time-restricted feeding) helps rid the liver of more glycogen, allows the body to begin using ketones for fuel, and can activate autophagy to rid my body of damaged cells.
This one is 15 today. We had a morning shared with Wallabies and Giraffes, followed by fried chicken and Mexican food. Happy Birthday darling boy, I love you.
/updated Tom Ward’s website_
Tom Ward has moved from BSB back to the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship, and so I have up made changes to his website to reflect this.
Along with some updated imagers, I have created and published an updated logo that features his race number in SSTK 1000.
/got a new second-hand book_
/a walk in the woods_
Took an autumn walk in the woods with the family today. It was sublime, apart from the huge blister that appeared on my right heel. I’m sorry Saloman, but your expensive trail running shoes do not suit my Sasquatch sized feet!
Despite the pain in my shoe, we found a part of the woods that we have never been to before, so I will be taking Karta back to investigate further during half-term holidays.
That is all.
I’m still trying to find some direction in my life. I dream of adventures, long journeys by car, train or motorcycle. I dream about building a racing car with my son, something that we can take to track days together. I dream of climbing mountains and hiking along deserted beaches in the warm winter sun of some far off land.
/it would appear that I have a smartphone addiction!_
I’m not going cold turkey…yet. I have deleted all social media apps from my smartphone, and I’m working out the best way to remove myself from WhatsApp. The latter is difficult, especially as I am involved with a football club that uses the app to communicate with each other and the parents of the children in our care.
I am starting to think that I will just have to tell everyone that I will not be using any Facebook owned products, along with Google products and, of course, social media apps and services. I have given myself until the end of the year to make alternative arrangements. Part of me just wants to pull the plug on it all, the practical part of me is telling me to wait. I’m on the fence, but leaning towards a big switch off, I really don’t think anyone will notice.
The more I read about the evils of the giant tech companies that mine our every move for data, the more I want to leave. My blog is my connection to the internet, that should be enough. Maybe I will “bite-the-bullet” sooner, rather that later?
That is all.
/time to hit the books_
This week I am making final preparations to begin my Open degree studies with the Open University. The first two modules that I am going to do are learning how to study and business communication. By my reckoning, I should complete the degree course within four years.
That is all.
MAKING PEACE WITH SMARTPHONES & SOCIAL MEDIA
The more I read about the evils of social media, the more I know that I need to make for the digital door. There isn’t one of these apps that works to monetize your data. I’m addicted, I have been doing my best to walk away for over ten years, but I keep getting sucked back into their trap. I don’t want to use WhatsApp or Facebook or Twitter, or any Google produced apps and resources.
/what a fucking mission getting a pre-order in place for the new XBox Series X today_! /we did it though.
/fuck yeah_this looks way better_!
So, another evolution to this website/blog/journal_thing. The post number_title/thingy will now be a tag, and I’ll update the /url_slug with it too. I’m not sure what I hope to achieve by doing this? Maybe it is all about aesthetics? Anyhoo, I’m now limiting my social media and smartphone use to just a couple of times per day. I check once in the morning, and then once again in the evening before I log off the tech for the day. I feel lighter, somehow?!
I’m playing with the format for this blog again.
I’m thinking about losing the post title (sequential-numeric), and sticking it in the tags section instead. I think it might look a bit better?
This is much better than social media! Welcome to the 500th post.
Wow! I can’t believe that I have hit half a thousand posts. I’ve been chipping away at this blog for some time, and I have to say, I LOVE IT! I like that I can say whatever I want, whenever I want. I own all of the content that I post, it cannot be weaponised for use in targeted advertising. I don’t have to worry about algorithms fucking with things, or bots deciding if anything that I write gets to see the light of day for more than a nanosecond.
Long live freedom of expression, freedom of speech and freedom to write about anything that tickles my fancy. This is un-social media, if you don’t like it, there’s the door! That is all.
IT’S KEBAB O’CLOCK!
Thursdays seem to have become takeaway kebab and pizza day for this household!
THE XBOX ONE OPEN NAT DEBACLE
I now have IPv6 fully operational on my broadband connection. IPv6 is fucking awesome; except it isn’t. Not where my Xbox One is concerned. It should be the best way to connect the console to the internet for the online gaming etc. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Suddenly, I can’t play games online with my friends. I had to go back to using IPv4, just so we (my son and I) can play games. FFS.
If that wasn’t bad enough, I have just spent the best part of two hours trying to obtain an open NAT. Job done, but what a fucking faff. Let’s hope the next gen Xbox does better.
Feeling a wee bit lighter. Thanks to Tommy at Quo Vadis for the cut.
Frankly, I don’t give a fuck anymore!
I keep getting burned. I get asked to “help out” on projects, and, as usual, nothing ever comes from my efforts. Well, this is the last time that I take on things that help other people, but never me.
Let me give you an example. I offer to re-build a website. I do the work, get as far as I can with the project, then nothing. Not even a thank you or a “here’s some content, the site looks awesome.”
